It’s hard to believe it’s already October. Before you know it, it will be Halloween.

We are off to a great start in Homeroom 109. The students worked cooperatively to earn a McDonald’s lunch and

movie last Friday. A good time was had by all, and we are looking forward to filling the Lego jar again!

Please remember to send in sweatshirts as the weather becomes cooler, as we will continue to go outdoors for recess.

Reading

Everyone is doing a great job learning their sight words. We are finishing up with our short vowel sounds and moving on to long vowels.

Math

We are practicing our addition facts in math. We have used counters, dice and touch math as manipulatives.

A great game to try out at home is at www.sheppardsoftware.com. When you get to the site, click on math and choose Math Madness—it’s a great way

to practice addition facts. We will be adding addition facts practice as an option for bonus work.

Science

We are finishing up our Life Science Unit in science and are beginning to study how people can help the environment. Everyone had a lot of great ideas

about how we can help the plant and our animal friends!

We created our own ecosystem, complete with fish and a turtle. They seem to be thriving in the classroom.

We are all excited about our trip to the zoo this week. After the zoo, each student will be researching one endangered animal in the computer lab and then

creating a shadow box habitat. We can’t wait to see how they turn out!

Janet, Jackie, Scott, Keith and I are privileged to spend each day with your children. There is a lot a great thinking taking place each day
