Reading/Language Arts

Theme: Mysteries

Read a book/story or watch a movie that would be considered a “mystery.”

List the following information and explain each of the elements in your mystery.

Please include: title, case or crime, clues, criminal(s), detective, evidence, solution, suspects, suspense, witness(es),alibi.

- Write 5 addition problems containing 3 single digits and solve using your Touch Math. (example: 4 + 5 + 9 = _______ )

Science

Watch the weather report on television. Then, go outside and take notice of the weather conditions. Pretend that you are a weatherman and write a weather report using including the day, time, temperature, and weather conditions. Be creative! Draw a picture to go with your report for EXTRA CREDIT!

 

Social Studies

Social Studies- What is your family’s heritage? In a few sentences, explain about your family’s culture. Tell about the language, clothing, food, art, music, religion and traditions that make you special.

In the story Cliffhanger that we read in school, Axel was very brave.  Write a short paragraph telling me about a time that you were brave.

Subj: Language Arts

Write a sentence for each of this week’s spelling words.

Subj: Math

Ramon has 36 model cars and airplanes. If he has 9 model cars, how many airplanes does he have? If each car cost $1.00, and each airplane cost $2.00, how much did it cost Ramon to purchase his toys? Remember to show your work, not just the answer.

Current Events – Watch a news show or read a newspaper article. Write a paragraph of at least 5 sentences stating what happened and who was involved.

Subj: Science

We are learning about cells and microscopes. Using a dictionary or encyclopedia, write out the definition of cell and the definition of microscope.  Name the source of your information.

Have you ever been an eyewitness to a major even? Discuss the event and what you witnessed. ( Pretend you are being interviewed by a news reporter.)

 

Social Studies Homeroom 303 6th grade

Find an article in the newspaper and write a summery explaining who it is about, what happened and how it happened, and what the outcome was.  Any other information that may be important to the understanding of the article should also be included.

Reading: Period 1:

 Pick your favorite book write the title, a summery of the book and a new ending to the story.

Science: Period 6

Draw a diagram of the plant and animal cell and label the organelles inside.

Bonus Work will be sent home in a weekly packet on Mondays.  Please bring the entire packet, finished or unfinished, back to school on Friday.  Remember, you earn Chapel Hill dollars for completed work, and it helps your grade.  You do not lose anything by not completing bonus work.

Your child can complete as many of these activities as he desires. Each time he brings in bonus work, we will reward him with a sticker. Once his sticker chart is filled, he will be able to pick a prize from the special bonus prize box.

 

Read for 15 minutes each night—have your Mom or Dad sign your communication log. It’s OK to have Mom or Dad read to you or with you.
Did you know that you can increase your vocabulary by up to 1,000 words just by reading a little each night?

 

Bring in an appropriate current event (nothing violent or scary, please) to share on Friday during calendar time. Be prepared to tell your friends about your current event.

 Make a word search using your Dolch site words to share with your classmates. Blank word search paper will be available in the classroom.

Daily Bonus work is in the classroom with the daily weather trivia cards.  Fill out the answers on the trivia card and place in the answer basket. 

Also:  Collect weather maps from the internet , the newspaper or Weatherbug Achieve and write how the weather is changing from day to day, using any part of the country. Investigate a genetic trait that you have and try to trace it back in your family as far as you can.
