NEWS FROM THE ART ROOM

First floor- Art and Social Skills
Our projects revolve around the making of dinosaurs. We are drawing, painting, and sculpting them. We are creating their environments. While we are working, we are talking about good manners and positive practices towards peers and family.
Even Dinosaurs need to be taught the right was to do things.
Second floor- Art and Social Skills
We are practicing our communication and sharing of ideas. We are using our imaginations to create an individual "Spangled Pandemonium" after the poem by Palmer Brown. These pieces are fashioned out of wire and newspapers and then covered with plastercloth. Soon we will be painting them and they will later be embellished with feathers, scales etc.
Third floor-Social Skills
Our classes are finishing up our "Healing Circles," or as they are sometimes known "Mandalas." The word Mandala means "Circle" in Sanskrit (from India). We are using colored sand as a means of creating them as was done by Tibetan monks and Hopi indians as well as many other cultures. Their designs are based on radial symmetry as occurs in many places in nature, ie petals of flowers, starfish, and even the solar system to an extent. This symmetery is expressive of harmony with nature.
